1st of all the school is breaking the law by letting others know the status of the students. Under the USDA laws the schools are not to let others know the status of the students whether they are free, reduced, or even paid. They are not even suppose to collect monies at the point of sales. In our school if we find that a student's family is having trouble paying we send out a social worker to find out what the problem is. Here are some examples: parents do send monies to the school for lunches and guess what the kids are stopping at the local Q-Trip store and buying sodas and chips and candy bars before school, which we do not allow in our school because of the Wellness program. We had one student that was saving their lunch monies to buy a birthday gift for their girlfriend, others saving it for the movies, etc.
